4 Things You Wanted To Know About Executive Recruiters (But Were Afraid To Ask)
It's now time to reflect on your career.
This Career Meditation will help you get the most out of your upcoming Brand Discovery. It will take you approximately 3 hours to complete.
Find a spot where you know you won’t be disturbed.
Put your phone on silent. Disable email notifications. Ignore the temptation to check the latest on social media. Pour yourself a cup of tea. Don’t view this task as something you must “get out of the way”. Don’t try to get it done at the last minute.
Take a deep breath in. This is your time.
When you’re ready, navigate through the following pages, absorbing the points, following the questions and using them to guide your reflections. Get present to what you’ve done during your career and your reasons for doing it.
Don’t skim. Don’t skip over things.
You know that the world of recruitment, talent acquisition and job search is changing around you at an alarming rate.
You’ve realised that to achieve your next career objective, build your business or achieve industry recognition you need a brand – a personal brand – that is highly effective at positioning you head and shoulders above your competition in the modern marketplace.
Why do you want to move on from your current role?
It will be important for us to understand your main motivations for change.
Which Roles Interest You?
Being clear on your direction prior to your Brand Discovery is essential.
Please share with us some indicative examples of roles listed on job boards. Seek, CareerOne, MyCareer, Indeed or LinkedIn may be a good place to start.
If you are unable to find a role that reflects your target direction, do not worry. In this case, please send us through a description of the role you are looking to target, inclusive of title, industry, and seniority level.
If your package contains one resume, the links you send through must be for the SAME ROLE TYPE. This is because we want to ensure that your value proposition is strong; we use your experience to address a SPECIFIC pain point in the market. Addressing multiple pain points in the one document will dilute your value proposition.
If you aren’t sure of your next step, or require assistance in clarifying your direction, it’s important to let us know at least 5 business days PRIOR to your Brand Discovery, so that we can then either send you through additional questions to help decide on your own and/or set up a Strategic Career Coaching session BEFORE your Brand Discovery takes place. The cost of this session is $550 + GST.
What Have You Done In The Last 15 Years?
In a moment we'll ask you to provide some insight about your last 4 roles (ideally, the last 10 years of your career). Please do not include information that goes back further than 15 years. If we require that information, we'll ask you about it during your Brand Discovery.
We will ask you to separate your career into three distinct sections: full time roles, contracting / consulting roles and lastly Non-Executive appointments.
No need to try to fit all roles in within the first section!
Your Full Time Roles.
Let’s start with your FULL TIME roles.
Please click on "ADD YOUR ROLES" button below and provide your responses. Start with your most recent FULL TIME role and work backwards.
The more information and context you can provide during this reflection and preparation phase, the better we'll be equipped to prepare for your session, and the deeper we'll be able to dive with you during Brand Discovery.
Your Consulting / Contracting Roles.
Now it’s time to think about your consulting roles. You know the drill - click the "ADD YOUR ROLES" button below and provide us with insight into the roles you've held where you were engaged as a consultant or contractor. Ensure you continue to keep the detail to the most recent 15 years of your working life.
Your Non-Executive Appointments.
Please provide insight into NED appointments you've held during the past 15 years, starting with the present day.
A reminder that the more information and context you can provide during this reflection and preparation phase, the better we'll be equipped to prepare for your session, and the deeper we'll be able to dive with you during Brand Discovery.
You're Almost Done.
If you have done a recent psychometric assessment or have any other leadership assessments / 360 reports, please attach the results summaries/first pages below.
A few things to ponder on - not to send answers to!
During your consultation your Arielle Executive Consultant will ask you a number of questions to get to know your personality, both from a professional and social perspective.
For us, the more insight you can provide the better.
Have a think about your personality, and what makes you the way that you are. As an example, saying you’re hard working and dedicated is valuable, but what we’re really looking for is the WHY.
Why do you work hard, why are you dedicated to what you do, and why do others think this about you too?
Think about what skills are important for your profession, and why they are. For example, in most sales jobs the ability to build rapport quickly with customers is essential, as is a strong motivation to achieve goals and KPIs.
We want a hiring manager or recruiter to look at your resume, or your LinkedIn profile, and to immediately see you as valuable to their or their client's organisation.
Your value centres on two things: having the right experience for the role, and having the right personality.
However, to make an impact we need to take it to another level by demonstrating why you, over others at the same level as you, should be the successful applicant. What is it that you can bring to the table that others can’t?
Think about your peers in your current and previous roles. Can you pinpoint why you have been promoted / regarded as more successful over them? What is it you do differently that makes you more successful?
Perhaps you’re the person everyone goes to when there’s a troubled project or a distressed client account?
Why is that? Why can you turn it around when others can’t?
And you're done!
You did well. Thank you for your patience and perseverance. If you're like most people, you've probably found this exercise in reflection enlightening.
We tend to get caught up in the day-to-day challenges of work and, in doing so, tend to forget the scope of what we've done - and what we're capable of.
Submit your responses to us by clicking "I'M FINISHED" below.
See you in Brand Discovery.
